Indigo Light - Arcturus
100% Organically Grown Cotton
Gauge: 16 - 20sts = 4"/10cm
Needle Size: 4.5mm/7 US - 5.5mm/9 US
Hand dyed naturally in small batches in our back yard with locally grown or ethically sourced plants, and natural mordants.
The colour varies gently through the skein so your project will have greater visual depth than with a commercially dyed yarn. The process of dyeing naturally takes time, but requires no nasty chemicals, and the colours are always soft on the eye. Typically plant-dyeing takes anywhere from 3 days to two weeks, starting with scouring (cleaning). Indigo requires a unique process of repeatedly reducing and oxidizing, which is fascinating to see. Our process uses naturally occurring minerals and sugar, along with ethically sourced natural indigo.
The base yarn we use is EKO Certified Organic by USDA, GOTS, Control Union, SKAL & Certified Fair Trade by Control Union Fair Choice, it comes from Peru Naturtex, and it is hand dyed in small batches at the Vegan Yarn studio in New Westminster, BC, Canada.
